Scholars working in various disciplines of risk research met at the conference "Environmental Decisions: Risks and Uncertainties" to cope with the complexity of the decision making processes related to environmental problems. The conference stimulated interdisciplinary work and defined overarching issues to be solved for integration of the different disciplines. More »

Bonnie Claire Wintle – CSF Award Winner of the Conference on “Environmental Decisions: Risks and Uncertainties”

The IED Professors selected the PhD student Bonnie Claire Wintle from the University of Melbourne as the winner of the CSF Award. The award was presented to Bonnie Wintle for her outstanding oral presentation of a paper given by a young researcher during the IED Conference on “Environmental Decisions: Risks and Uncertainties”. Impression of Monte Verità and Brissago Island visited during the Conference “Environmental Decisions: Risk and Uncertainties”

The conference “Environmental Decisions: Risk and Uncertainties” was organized at a historical location of philosophical thoughts and artistic spirits which became a place of research and experimentation. Also today, the site is described as a place which “recreates a perfect setting for encouraging the development of new ideas and dreams and for meeting and exchanging knowledge.” More »

NSSI Colloquium: Perspectives of Research on Human-Environment Systems

On April 23th 2010 the IED Chair of Environmental Sciences: Natural and Social Science Interface (NSSI) held a research colloquium on the perspectives of research on human-environment systems. The invited speakers were eight international professors, who worked during an important step of their career for NSSI. The colloquium formed a bridge between the past and the future of human-environment systems research. More »

IED Project News

CIS Initiates New Project on Water Conflict and Cooperation

Researches in the International and Comparative Political Economy group of Prof. Dr. Thomas Bernauer as well as scholars from the Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO) are currently in the process of creating a unique data set of cooperative and conflictive events related to water. These data will cover all riparian countries of the Mediterranean as well as states in the Middle East and the Sahel between 1997 and 2009. The project is funded by the EU within a broader research agenda on “Climate Change, Hydro-conflicts and Human Security” (CLICO). More »

Für eine Welt ohne Hunger – ETH Studenten besuchen die FAO, die Ernährungs- und Landwirtschaftsorganisation der UNO, in Rom

Im Rahmen der Mastervorlesung „International Competition and Local Outcome“ (ICLO) von Prof. Dr. Bernard Lehmann hatte eine interdisziplinäre Gruppe von 25 Studenten sowie vier Doktoranden die Möglichkeit, mit Experten der FAO über Herausforderungen und Lösungsansätze im Kampf gegen Hunger zu diskutieren. Es zeigte sich einmal mehr, dass diese Problematik äusserst komplex ist und nur durch koordiniertes Handeln angegangen werden kann. More »

The global financial crisis can – in its causes and effects – be understood as an ethical challenge. The “Rottendorf Symposion” which took place from 11 to 12 June 2010 at the Munich School of Philosophy, reflected on the reasons and possible solutions for these ethical predicaments. More »

The conference is one of the main conferences in Europe in the field of Social Network Analysis and assembles SNA scholars from different disciplines and countries. More »
